lighttpd forum lighty > Changing proxy hosts

If I'm using lighttpd as a load-balancer with a collection of backends, 
is there a way for me to dynamically add and remove machines from the 
cluster without needing to reload the lighttpd config?

We have external monitoring of our backends, so would like to take them 
out of the pool for load balancing before users experience slow/failed 
requests.
